Vince only started the Tough Tigers Kung Fu School in the spring of 2008; this was because he was approached by many parents at his own children’s primary school asking if he would start teaching their kids.

Vince scoped out the local martial arts schools to see what ideas he could get and how they taught the children. He came away thinking that there was definitely a need for children to ‘have fun’ while learning martial arts; as he found at some of the other martial arts schools the kids would look bored with what they were doing and the discipline was lacking for the most part as there was only one or two teachers present.

Vince advertised the new Tough Tigers Kung Fu School at Bures Primary School and he also did a demonstration and workshop. This went down a dream for the primary school as it was talked about for many months after.

The following Wednesday twenty children signed up for the Kung Fu, this was a great moment for the now ever growing CYK kung fu school as the children would train their minds and bodies to be able to then take the next steps toward the adult syllabus.

Vince wanted to make sure all the children had fun while they learned Kung Fu and to do this he created prizes for good discipline and he enlisted the help of some of his adult students that were more than happy to volunteer.

The children can enter competitions and demonstration only if they feel comfortable to do so (with a little encouragement from the teachers, they do tend to). The Tough Tigers School has entered only one national kung fu championship so far (as of writing this February 2011) and the school came away with one silver and two bronze medals; not bad for their first time at such a prestigious competition.

The children find the training fun and energetic. The parents enjoy knowing their children are well looked after and that they can relax in the clubs bar next door.

Prizes are given at the end of each lesson for good behaviour and also the lessons fee will be given back to the child that showed most development within that particular lesson.
